This year, significant changes to U.S. immigration enforcement, regulations, and policies have had a detrimental effect on the individuals and families we serve. Considering these challenges, we are humbly asking for your financial support to continue offering affordable, subsidized immigration legal services to low-income clients.

Recent increases in filing fees have placed an additional burden on vulnerable communities:

  • Work authorization fees, which have risen from $410 to a range of $550–$795.
  • Petitions for spouses or children of U.S. citizens have risen from $1,760 to $2,335
  • DACA renewals for immigrants who entered the U.S. as children, from $495 to $605
  • Asylum seekers now face an initial application fee of $100, plus $100 for each year their application remains pending—up from $0 for both.
  • The cost to appeal an immigration judge’s decision has skyrocketed to $1,010, up from $100.
  • The fee for Cancellation of Removal, an essential process for those in deportation proceedings with U.S. Citizen or Lawful Permanent Resident family members, increased from $1,440 to $2,950.

In this context, demand for our services has risen significantly, making your support more crucial than ever.

Work with a Financial Advisor

Initiate a Donor-Advised Fund (DAF) Grant

If you have a Donor-Advised Fund, you can recommend a grant directly to ODIS. This is a simple and tax-efficient way to give from your charitable fund.

Donate Appreciated Stock

Donating stock allows you to avoid capital gains taxes while supporting our mission. This option can also offer potential tax benefits. Consult your financial advisor for guidance.

Donate through an IRA (Qualified Charitable Distribution)

If you have started to take minimum distributions, you can donate directly from your IRA to ODIS, satisfying part or all of your required minimum distribution (RMD) and potentially lowering your taxable income.

Donate through a Charitable Gift Annuity (CGA)

With a CGA, you make a gift to ODIS while receiving fixed lifetime payments in return, offering both support for our mission and guaranteed income for you or a loved one.

Leave a Legacy (Planned Giving/Bequests)

Including ODIS in your will or estate plans ensures that your compassion continues to transform lives for generations. For example, you might consider donating a life insurance policy whose premiums you’ve already paid.

For Business Owners

Businesses can make tax-deductible contributions that can help reduce taxable income. Be sure to consult with your tax accountant for specific details related to your business structure.

No matter the size or method of your gift, your contribution will help open doors of opportunity, safety, and hope for immigrant families in our community.

If you need to speak to our Volunteer Financial Advisor for guidance on donation methods, please contact: Bellann M. Hyten, CPFA®, LPL Financial Advisor with Maverick Financial, at (214) 972-0823.
